about me

Hi! I’m Victoria! I’m third-year student studying BA Digital Design at the University of Hull. I always loved being creative and coming up with solutions to problems which lead me to studying design through College and University.

I am passionate about 2D graphic design and enjoy working with Adobe Illustrator in particular to create my design pieces and spend a lot of time creating artwork here when I’m not designing. I am also proficient in Adobe XD, Photoshop and have skills in After Effects and Premiere Pro. Through my degree I have learnt various 3D skills as well and used programmes such as Maya and Zbrush to complete 3D design modules.

Along with Graphic Design I have a passion for art and illustration. From a young age I had a passion for drawing and painting and work a lot with watercolours. I have since moved to digital art, using Procreate to illustrate my ideas. Having skills in design and art can be useful as the two can combine well to make more interesting pieces. I have worked creating commissions for others and sharing my skill.

Outside of design I have a love of reading. I have actually had a chance to incorporate this into book designing and the study of the publishing industry, combining my two interests.

illustrations

Using Procreate and my iPad with Apple Pencil I have been able to spend a lot of time refining my digital art skills. In this section are some of the pieces I was commissioned to create. My general process is very efficient and I enjoy making digital art that reminisces physical mediums such as chalk and crayons.

I enjoy working with clients to create the art they want and allowing them to make any changes at any stage in the drawing process, I always allow each stage to be approved before continuing work to allow the best outcome for the person commissioning my artwork.

These three featured pieces are some of my favourites as I enjoy the use of the colour, the smoothness of the blending and how each piece has interesting and unique features whilst remaining within my overall art style. The cute nature of my drawings and the overall quite simplistic art style make its applications endless and allow me to combine my artwork into any other digital projects that need an illustrative element.

I love creating artwork when I gain an interest in a new form of media I love to create artwork to reflect this!

design work

During my time studying graphic design I have become very fascinated with designs within print media. I have worked on projects such as as design journal about graphic design and a project dedicated to redesigning books into a special edition collection. Each of these were projects I was very passionate about and spent copious amounts of time designing each element and creating them with care.

My graphic design journal project, in which pages can be seen below was one of the most interesting projects I worked on, it allowed me the freedom to be creative and play with layouts and shapes, creating something interesting and unique. The typography page was my favourite which is why I have chosen to display it prominently. As the journal project was not meant to be read seriously and was more of an expression of aesthetic freedom I was able to do some strange titling and interesting text placement which I think leads to a very beautiful design.

The project to the left is one of my 5 book redesigns for a limited set I created. I worked to capture the essence of the books I was working on with iconography and symbols that really helped the readers identify their favourite books without the use of a title.

app design

Within my degree I had the opportunity to create a range of app designs for a range of projects. Displayed here are two of my favourite designs. The one above is a redesign of the old iHull University app, making it more sleek and modern and interesting for students to use. I created this in Adobe XD and used a modular system for my design so that the layouts could be customised to the users needs. I enjoy the monochromatic colour scheme I chose and think this adds more customisation as a user could chose from some pre selected ones to get a more catered experience.

This second app design was for a prototyping module, it was created in a week with basic functionality. It was a dedicated note taking app with image functionality. The app has full onboarding, tutorial screens and a demonstration of the text to image function. As this is a prototype a lot of work could be done to it in the future. In that project we created a new prototype every single week totalling 7 in 7 weeks, really helping me to refine my quick thinking and design skills and work to really short deadlines. advertising

The advertising work that is featured here was for my Major Project assignment. I chose to create marketing and advertising assets for a fictional Arts festival based in the city which featured a collage art style. I worked with illustrator and photoshop to create my designs, spending time choosing fonts, perfecting typography and creating vector graphics to layer with found stock images. My major project is something I am extremely proud of and the whole final project outcome plus my research can be found on the page below!

logo design

I really enjoy logo design so when the task of creating a business with a team for a project rose I nominated myself to attempt to create our company logo. Our company was a sustainable pet toy brand and I wanted the logo to reflect this with the green tones and natural feel. I did a lot of brainstorming and colour testing for my logos to see if they could be adapted for future branding opportunities , experimenting with the paw vector I created as a base.

The logo in the first image is the one that was chosen by the group in the end and the stitch graphics were a fun addition thought up by my team members. I always create multiple versions of a logo to make sure that all possibilities have been tested and all outcomes have been trialed. This allowed for my team to be able to make the right decision for the brand, more of the work from this project can be seen below.
